Early in 2016 Luke Shadbolt spent a month in a remote landscape bordering the Pacific Ocean, photographing the consistently large storm swells generated by an active El Niño event. 50ft waves would crash into sheer cliffs and refract back towards the open ocean, colliding with the incoming swells. The ensuing detonations birthed the abstract and sculptural shapes that have become synonymous with his work.

These images afford us a cursory glimpse of the exchange, cycle and interdependence between environmental spheres fundamental to the functioning of our planet and in particular, its oceans.
As is the underlying message of these images, all viable eco-friendly options have been used in the creation of this book.
